A Portishead councillor is ‘angry and frustrated’ after he was unable to influence ‘harmful’ plans to convert an empty office block into housing.

Juniper Homes will create 22 houses at Dynamic House, in Serbert Road, after securing change-of-use permission from North Somerset Council.

But Portishead East councillor David Pasley is unhappy the plans have gone ahead, revealing councillors were not given a say in the decision.

He said: “Cllr David Oyns and I requested the application to be called in before the planning committee so we could object to the loss of employment land but were informed only officers could make the decision as it was not a normal planning application.

“Both Cllr Oyns and I feel angry and frustrated that we are unable to exercise our right to object where we feel something like this is potentially harmful to the local community.”
