An appeal for volunteers to lead a number of group walks has been launched by North Somerset Council (NSC).

The council is seeking to recruit people as part of its Walking For Health scheme, and will look to train them for the role later this month.

People who enjoy the outdoors and want to become more active are being encouraged to join the initiative – which is largely volunteer run.

Many of the walks take place weekly and have been designed to support people who want to lead a healthier lifestyle.

A total of 24 walking groups are up-and-running in the district, including those based in Clevedon, Nailsea and Yatton.

More than 6,000 people have joined the scheme since it was launched 10 years ago.

The council’s next free training day will take place in Clevedon on January 25.
