Developers now faced with Community Infrastructure Levy cost
PUBLISHED: 18:00 19 January 2018
A new charge on developers to help fund infrastructure projects across North Somerset has come into force.
The vommunity infrastructure levy (CIL) replaces the previous section 106 funding and ensures prospective developers help pay for community facilities such as schools or improved transport networks.
Town and parish councils will also receive 15 per cent of any CIL contribution for development in their area, while this increases to 25 per cent where a neighbourhood plan has been adopted.
Elfan Ap Rees, North Somerset’s executive member with responsibility for planning, said: “CIL will result in increased clarity and transparency about the contributions that developers are expected to make and how that money is spent.
“With a share going direct to town and parish councils, they will have the money to spend on the best way they see fit to support growth in their area.”
