Cheers rang out as Nailsea's new skatepark was officially opened in the presence of scores of supporters.

Nailsea Skatepark Project (NSP) praised the community for their ‘amazing’ support in raising £116,000.

A plaque thanking contributors was unveiled in Millennium Park, before fans tucked into a cake.

The opening was followed by the 14th Skatepark Festival and Showcase and competitors put on a brilliant performance.

Phil Williams, festival organiser and member of NSP, said: “The journey has taken us 20 months and in that time the community has raised a staggering £116,000 which means we only have another £1,500 to raise until the project is completely paid off. The support of the community and the church has been amazing.”

The team is now hoping to set up a skate school and provide first aid training for some of the park’s users.
