More than 200 hens are now settling into new homes in North Somerset thanks to a re-homing event in Backwell.

The British Hen Welfare Trust ran a pop-up event to find new owners for hens which have stopped laying eggs every day.

The birds would have been heading for the slaughterhouse, but the charity stepped in to rescue the hens to save them from being served up for dinner.

All 200 birds are now enjoying their well-deserved retirement.

The British Hen Welfare Trust re-homes commercial laying hens and educates people on hen welfare.
