Calls for 'unsound' climbing wall to be replaced near Portishead leisure centre

A climbing wall could be reinstated in Portishead following requests from children.
Towards the end of last year, the climbing wall near Parish Wharf Leisure Centre had to be removed by North Somerset Council because it was deemed to be ‘unsound’.
Since the intervention both it and Portishead Town Council have been contacted by users and their parents asking for a replacement.
The town council will discuss the idea tonight (Wednesday).
In a report ahead of the meeting, the town council says: “We have been asked by North Somerset Council if we would be willing to contribute towards a replacement climbing wall, if it is able to source some funding.”
It goes on to say a like-for-like replacement is unlikely to be found but similar products are available.
The town council’s recreation and works committee will meet at 7.30pm in the Folk Hall.
