VOLUNTEER lifesavers in Portishead are providing rapid medical help to members of the community thanks to a nippy new car provided by a local business.

The small team of community first responders (CFRs) in Portishead is using the specially-marked vehicle to respond to patients with immediately life-threatening conditions and provide vital early treatment while an ambulance is en route. The Vauxhall Corsa has been donated by local building firm CJL Construction.

Portishead CFR Mike Young said: “The law does not allow CFRs to drive under emergency conditions, but this car is very eye-catching and is already a recognised and welcome sight around Portishead.”

Financial support for the CFRs has also come from community and charitable groups in Portishead which has allowed the team to buy its own defibrillators and other lifesaving kit.

The organisation is seeking more volunteers. To find out more call 0117 928 0485 or email firstresponder@gwas.nhs.uk.
