Weeds can completely ruin your garden, patio, and driveway by growing in the most awkward places.
Weeds are also notoriously difficult to get rid of, with many people spending lots of money on different weed killers in the hopes of stopping them from growing.
However, there are a few cheap tips and tricks that you can try instead to stop weeds in your garden.
A DIY expert is urging people to reach for this cupboard essential before buying weed killer.
Cheap kitchen essential you can use to get rid of weeds
Weeds can appear in small cracks and gaps in your garden and driveway before turning into a much bigger problem if you leave them to grow.
Before you spend a lot of money on specialist weed killers, you can try using lemon juice on smaller weeds to prevent them from becoming bigger.
A DIY expert and Co-Founder of patio paint supplier Premium Paints, Bill Jarvis, says you should reach for this cupboard staple to get rid of small patches of stubborn weeds.
He said: “Lemon juice probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you spot a weed on the driveway, but it can be handy for those little weeds that keep popping up through cracks.
“It’s acidic, so it can damage the leaves and help deal with smaller weeds.
“I’d just make sure you’re careful about where you put it and keep it away from any plants you actually want to keep.
“It’s not going to replace proper weed killer, but if you’ve only got a few weeds to deal with, there’s no reason not to make use of something you might already have in the kitchen.”

How to get rid of weeds using lemon juice
If you want to try it out, you apply a small amount of lemon juice onto the leaves of the weed rather than soaking the area around it.
You should do this on a dry day so the lemon juice has time to sit on the leaves without being washed away by rain.
This should be done when the weeds are small and you should pull out the weed and as much of the root as possible once the lemon juice has killed it.
You should apply the lemon juice carefully to not damage any plants nearby and keep an eye on the same areas, as weeds can return.
Make sure you sweep your driveway or patio regularly to stop soil, leaves, and debris from building up in the cracks.
Bill said: "A lot of it comes down to catching them early.
“If you’ve only got a couple of small weeds poking through a crack, it’s much easier to deal with them while they’re still small.
"Once you’ve got rid of them, it’s worth clearing out any bits of soil and dirt left in the gap too, otherwise you could find yourself dealing with another weed in the same spot a few weeks later.
“Lemon juice isn’t going to magically get rid of every weed on your driveway, but for those few annoying ones that keep popping up through cracks, it’s a cheap little trick that’s worth trying.”
