A surfer from Nailsea has been chosen to manage the English surfing team at the World Longboarding Surfing Championships in China.

Phil Williams, who has been a surfer for more than 40 years and also organises Nailsea Community Skatepark Festival, was delighted to accept the voluntary role, but he is now looking to raise £7,500 so he can take the team out to China.

The championship will run from January 19-25 and the English team has the potential to do extremely well.

The athletes and Phil need to raise around £1,500 each to be able to attend the games.

Phil is now looking for a few companies to invest around £500 each to sponsor the athletes in return for publicity.

The event will be streamed live at www.isasurf.org/events/isa-world-longboard-championship

Phil is also raising money through a prize draw which will take place next Friday.

For every £5 donated, a ticket will be entered into the draw. Prizes include a hamper and vouchers.

To find out more about sponsoring the team, email Phil at Phil@christiansurfers.co.uk
