Plans to open a new micropub in Nailsea town centre have been given the green light this week.

Planning permission has been granted to turn the former Lynne Fernandes Optometrists' unit, in High Street, into a micropub.

It will welcome drinkers in six days a week.

The property in Ivy Court measuring just 36 square metres inside is attached to the Golden Horse oriental restaurant and takeaway and sits below an accountancy firm.

North Somerset Council has given the go-ahead to plans to change the use.

Neighbours wanted reassurance music and entertainment would be 'strictly forbidden' at all times, and questioned how deliveries would take place.

Planning officers said a condition could prevent amplified music being played, and deliveries would 'not cause any long term obstruction to the highway network'.

The plans say: "The proposed micro pub is intended to primarily service residents of the Nailsea community. Therefore, as was the case with the former optometrists use, the vast majority of customers will arrive on foot.

"The micro pub will provide a new venue in Nailsea for members of the community of all ages to meet and bring a vacant unit back into use.

"The site is within Nailsea town centre and so surrounding uses consist of a mixture of shops, services, and community facilities.

"There are several late night opening premises with alcohol licenses in close proximity to the site including the Golden Horse, Il Paradiso restaurant and the Great Wall Chinese takeaway."

There will be no loud music or live bands and there will also be a challenge 25 policy in place.

No changes will be made to the outside of the property.

Lynne Fernandes Optometrists has three stores, including two in Bristol.

It moved from Ivy Court, but remains in the High street.
