A new ladies’ tennis group is running in Nailsea after a sports club’s hugely successful open day.

Nailsea Lawn Tennis Club welcomed scores of visitors to its first open day of the season.

The club, which meets at Mizzymead Recreation Centre, would like to thank everyone for supporting the event.

Chairman Jackie Thompson said: "It was wonderful to see so many happy children, with many picking up a racquet for the first time."

Due to an increase in demand for junior tennis sessions, the club is sponsoring the training of two new coaching assistants.

Lead coach Tom Fowler said: "I am pleased the club is developing home-grown talent, with Laura Smith and Lorenzo Milleri taking their qualification during June and July, bolstering the existing coaching team."

It has also launched a new ladies' coaching session on Thursday evenings.
