Nailsea Christmas fair is cancelled

Nailsea’s Christmas Fair has been cancelled this year after a last-ditch appeal for volunteers fell on deaf ears

NAILSEA’S popular Christmas fair has been cancelled due to a lack of volunteers.

In April, the committee appealed for another 10 volunteers to help organise the event, but none have come forward.

Acting committee chairman, Gilly Chu, said: “We have had a lot of committee members leave for one reason or another and despite a call going out for more help we didn’t get anyone extra coming forward.

“We had to make the decision that we couldn’t run the fair this year. It’s a real shame. Everyone wants to see the fair, but nobody wants to get up and do it.”

Three committee members left the group this year, leaving the group struggling with just six members.

The Christmas fair is hugely popular with residents and visitors who enjoy the street entertainment and wide array of stalls, fairground rides and live music. Last year 8,000 people attended the spectacle, which was held in the High Street and Somerset Square.

Gilly added: “We are hoping that people will miss it this year and it might encourage them to get involved next year.

“The funds are available, there’s nothing stopping us, we just need the man power.”
