Sailing trips on the MV Balmoral have been cancelled until next week.

The cancellations come after rope became caught in the ship’s propeller on August 12, forcing it to be returned to dry dock in Sharpness to undergo repair work.

This means planned visits to Clevedon Pier on August 21 and 22, and Portishead Marina on August 21 will not go ahead as scheduled.

A spokesman said: “An underwater assessment in Bristol has shown the seal needs to be replaced and for this to take place the ship has to go to dry dock in Sharpness.

“All pre-booked passengers are welcome to transfer to an alternative sailing of any value or within any regional sailing of the MV Balmoral.

“Again, we apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment this has caused and thank all our loyal and dedicated passengers for their understanding and patience.

“We are in the process of contacting passengers booked on all of these trips.”

The possibility of extending its sailing season for a week on October 2 is being explored.

It is expected to return to the Bristol Channel on August 23.
