NORTH Somerset’s MP claimed more than �4,280 in expenses in the first three-and-a-half months after the election, according to figures released by the Goverment’s new expenses watchdog.
Defence secretary Dr Liam Fox claimed �3668 for staffing and secretarial costs and �396 on stationery items including business cards and replacement printer cartridges.
He also claimed �63 to hire a venue for his MP surgery.
Out of 10 MPs in the former Avon area, the North Somerset MP came fourth for claiming the least, with only Bristol MPs Kerry McCarthy and Chris Skidmore and Weston MP John Penrose asking for less.
Filton and Bradley Stoke MP Jack Lopresti claimed the most - �12,511.13.
New expenses watchdog, the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, released details of a total of 22,000 claims submitted by MPs between May and August, adding up to �3.1million.
It does not publish the receipts supporting the claims because it said it could not justify the cost involved.
And the published payments made do not necessarily reflect the total amount claimed by MPs, as claims which have not been processed by August 31 have not been included.
