Heavy rain and strong winds are predicted for North Somerset early on Tuesday morning, and a yellow weather warning has been issued.

The Met Office is forecasting very strong winds will hit the district just after midnight, lasting until 10am on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman said: “Some delays to road, rail and ferry transport are likely, including for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

“Spray and some flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer.

“Twenty millimetres of rain is possible within two to three hours in some places, sufficient to cause some flooding of roads.

“It will also be very windy, with the southerly wind expected to gust 50-60mph widely and as high as 65-70mph along some exposed coasts and over high ground.”
