AFTER all the panicky shopping, last-minute wrapping and growing excitement, it’s here – and the Times would like to wish happy Christmas to all its readers.

We hope you’re having a wonderful Christmas Day and are celebrating in style.

For many, that will mean parting with friends and family, and eating and drinking to once-a-year excess.

Enjoy it – even if you do become part of the 87 per cent of dieters who reportedly fall off the wagon in spectacular style on Christmas Day.

We will of course still be running our news service throughout the festive weekend, so you won’t miss a thing that goes on around North Somerset.

And a word of warning for families celebrating Christmas together.

Survey results sent to the Times this week have pinpointed the main reasons for family arguments on the big day, so here are our top five pitfalls to avoid:

1) Kids are unimpressed with their presents – and parents are unimpressed that the kids are unimpressed. This argument is most likely to happen around 12.42pm, apparently.

2) Too many pre-dinner drinks for dad. He’ll incur mum’s wrath just after 1pm.

3) Turkey’s overcooked. No, it’s undercooked. In fact, it’s probably cooked perfectly, but that won’t stop mum getting stressed around 2.30pm.

4) At 3.24pm, some family hostilities will break out – perhaps some long-ago row will resurface – around the dinner table.

5) The classic battle of the sexes will then begin, as matriarch and patriarch battle for dominion – over the TV remote control.

This, of course, is just a bit of fun, as we’re sure you’ll have a wonderful Christmas Day and holiday week.

Merry Christmas from all at the Times…
