Maths minds collect cash
YOUNG mathematical minds in Nailsea helped to raise money for a good cause.
A sponsored maths-athon took place at Scotch Horn Leisure Centre in Brockway on March 31 to collect cash for Save the Children, which is trying to raise 1million for lost children in areas of Japan hit by a recent earthquake.
The event was organised by Nailsea’s Kumon centre, which provides additional maths and English tutoring to schoolchildren and originates from Japan.
Those taking part were challenged with completing as many maths questions as possible. As a result, about 300 has been raised after the team of 60 participants managed to complete more than 19,400 sums in an hour-and-a-half.
