Lanterns will illuminate Clevedon’s Marine Lake next week in appreciation of an £800,000 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant.

The HLF awarded the money in 2014 in support of a project to refurbish the lake by improving access and the sea wall and creating a children’s splash zone.

The celebration event, hosted by the Marine Lake Enthusiasts (MARLENS) and Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust, will begin at the pier at 2pm before a procession heads to the lake at 4pm.

The finale will see Marine Lake alight with boats, lanterns and some swimmers brave enough to take to the chilly waters – all done to the beat of North Somerset Samba.

MARLENS volunteers will carry out a bucket collection at the lake on the night to help fund the installation of lakeside concrete benches and ceramic murals.
