A FLAX BOURTON man has been rewarded for his 25 years of service to the North Somerset community.

Philip Chandler was handed the Maine Plate by The Rotary Club of Nailsea and Backwell in recognition of the work he has done since becoming a member of the group in 1986.

When awarding the Maine Plate to Philip, past-president John Glason spoke of his regular work to help with street collections, setting up direction markers for the annual Tickenham Walk, taking people and equipment to events and organising the Salvation Army concert in Nailsea every year.

A statement from the club said: “Philip Chandler has been a fine example of ‘service above self’ and richly deserves to be our ‘Maine man’ in 2011.”
