A stretch of the M5 has been closed due to a serious defect.

Access to A4 Avonmouth and Bristol Airport at junction 18 has been closed after a serious carriageway defect was discovered.

Contractors are on the scene making repairs, although there has not been a time frame given for when these will be completed.

Drivers are advised to exit at Junction 19 at Portishead and then head back to use the junction 18 northbound exit.
