A PORTISHEAD tae kwon do student has received a prestigious annual award after demonstrating incredible spirit and determination.

Seven-year-old Lydia Guiver fought off stiff competition from 125 other students from across the South West to win the Elliot Davies Memorial Cup at an activities weekend camp at Huish Wood.

Gemini Tae Kwon Do instructor and former British champion Jane Lambert said: “It was Lucy’s first time away from mum and dad and yet she met every challenge head on and had a go at every activity, no matter how scary.

“All the instructors and team leaders agreed that Lydia had made a lasting impression on them with her spirit and zest for life, which is why she was selected for this award.”
