Clowns, jugglers and trapeze artists entertained children from Birdwell School in Long Ashton, with the event raising around £2,500 for the PTA.

Happy's Circus paid a visit on July 17, and the highly-anticipated event attracted a 600-strong crowd.

A PTA member told the Times: "To celebrate the end of the school year, Happy's touring circus visited the school's playing field for one night only.

"Birdwell sold out of tickets and it was a fantastic evening, which had the children roaring with laughter.

"It was so much fun and the school PTA is planning to host the circus again soon."

Businesses Smurfit Kappa and Fair Plan sponsored the event, which rounded off the school year before the youngsters embarked on their summer holidays.
