A gas cylinder explosion in North Somerset caused ‘major damage’ to a food stand and vehicles in the early hours of this morning.

A propane cylinder in a food stand exploded in Ashton Road, Long Ashton at around 3.45am.

Firefighters believe the incident was caused deliberately.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “A propane cylinder explosion in a food stand caused major damage and also affected nearby vehicles and other food stands.”

Two crews from Bedminster and one from Temple attended the blaze.

They searched for debris, and found bits of the cylinder had damaged a nearby marquee.

Three other propane cylinders were monitored using thermal imaging cameras.

Police also attended the incident.
