A lion caught the football bug and paid a visit to a North Somerset club’s training session.

Clevedon Lions Club’s Eric The Lion dropped into meet members of the Clevedon United Junior Football Club’s inclusive section.

He was placed in goal and managed to save a couple of penalty shots before posing for a picture.

The training, which is held every Sunday morning at Clevedon School in Valley Road, hosts up to 20 children between the ages of five and 14 years old.

The Lions awarded £300 from its Dream Scheme, a fund which the club holds every year where money it collects from its Christmas float is put towards community projects.

The money will assist with the club’s running costs and help it buy equipment and new kit for the team of youngsters who enjoy playing and improving their skills.
