Residents of Pill have switched on to a new fundraising initiative to ensure that the village’s Christmas lights can continue.

The Christmas Lights Committee had announced that it was struggling to raise the £2,500 required before a single bulb was plugged in but a novel scheme has been welcomed with great enthusiasm with large numbers joining the Pill Lights Club.

There are currently 194 members of the club who each pay £2 per month to help towards the costs with anyone signed having the opportunity of winning £25 or £75 in a monthly prize draw as well as £100 or £500 during the December switch-on.

Bob Buck, Pill Lights Committee spokesman, said: “The response has been amazing – everyone is showing how much they appreciate the work our volunteers do.

“We have always had lots of support but now it seems we have the whole village behind us.”
