BATTERY Point lighthouse bell has been officially unveiled at its new home in Portishead.
The bell, which was removed from the lighthouse more than 10 years ago, was uncovered in 2010 in storage at the Port of Bristol, after much searching by local residents Carol Thomas and Annette Hennessy.
They believed the bell should be put on display as a symbol of Portishead’s maritime history.
With the support of Reyna Knight, who was chairman of the town council at the time, the project received backing and was funded from the town council’s Heritage budget.
Key figures from the Port of Bristol joined Carol, Annette and councillors for the official unveiling ceremony at Wyndham Way.
