A CLEVEDON supermarket has donated hundreds of pounds towards the town’s Christmas lights display this year.

Lidl’s store manager, Joe Westlake, handed over a £500 cheque to Nick Pennycott, chairman of the town council which is running the lights display this December after taking over responsibility from Clevedon Pride last year.

A statement from the town council said: “We have expressed sincere thanks to Lidl for their donation which has now started the ball rolling for this year’s Christmas lights display.”

A statement from Lidl said: “We are a company that is very keen to support local community projects like this one.”

Clevedon’s Lidl branch in Great Western Road is set to close for nine weeks from Monday to undergo extensive refurbishment work and is expected to re-open on May 21.
