NORTH Somerset MP Dr Liam Fox has been revealed as one of 27 MPs letting out their London homes at the same time as claiming expenses to rent elsewhere in the city.

According to research by The Telegraph newspaper, Dr Fox and other MPs have been exploiting a loophole which appeared following a change of rules in the wake of the 2009 expenses scandal.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) introduced a ban on MPs claiming mortgage interest from this summer and they are now only allowed to receive up to 20,000 in expenses for renting.

However, some have claimed the move means they have no choice but to rent out a property they own, which they can no longer afford, and live elsewhere.

Although this does not break any rules, it has prompted the national press to again question the use of public money for MPs expenses.
