A church lawn has been dedicated to a man who served at St Bridget’s Church in Chelvey for 40 years.

The north side of the grounds was dedicated to Chris Miles who died at the age of 100 in 2013.

His daughter Jenny Beaumont took part in the service after Chris left a bequest to the church to cover the cost of creating the lawn.

The improvements to the grounds were part of a huge refurbishment project at the church to open it up to the community.

Churchwarden Tony Stirrat said: “We would love to see this 900-year old parish church used more by the local community.”
