Fire crews were called to a farm in Mark this morning.

Crews from Burnham-on-Sea, Taunton, and Bridgewater were called to a barn fire which killed five lambs this morning.

The firefighters were sent to a farm in Harp Road, Mark, at 5.11am today (Sunday).

Three engines from Burnham and Taunton, along with a water carrier were sent to the scene and on arrival confirmed a fire in a beam at the front of the barn.

The crews started extinguishing the fire using one hose reel jet and small tools and requested a rescue tender from Taunton to help stabilise the building.

A Devon and Somerset Fire Service spokesman said: “Crews were cutting away using small tools and used a thermal image camera to check for any fire spread. The rescue tender was turned back en route to the incident as crews confirmed the structure was secure.

The fire was confirmed out at 6.11am. Sadly five lambs died in the fire. Duty of care was left with the farmer.”
