THE final phase of work to improve traffic flow at the Portishead junction of the M5 will not be completed until March.

It was hoped it would have been finished by the end of this month but this has now been delayed.

The changes being made include installing new sets of traffic lights on the two A369 approaches to junction 19 and also widening the road to create additional, short lanes at both the approaches. An extra, merging exit lane toward Portishead is also being created.

A high-occupancy vehicle lane is being installed on the Martcombe Road approach and traffic lights will be put in at the A369 junctions with St George’s Hill at Easton-in-Gordano and Portbury High Street. Both are part of the Greater Bristol Bus Network transport scheme.

The delay in completing the scheme along the A369 now means that plans to resurface the nearby St George’s Hill in Easton-in-Gordano will also be delayed until the A369 work is completed.
