SAILORS from Portishead and Clevedon will be demonstrating their support for the British Olympic sailing team this weekend.
Members of both Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club (PYSC) and Clevedon Sailing Club will take to the water on Saturday as part of a Push the Boat Out event, dreamt up by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to help raise the profile of dinghy sailing.
The RYA is calling on as many people as possible to take to the water in an attempt to drum-up more support and interest in the GB team, which has been spectacularly successful over recent years.
Clevedon sailors are planning to leave Clevedon slip at about noon while those from Portishead will leave Sugarloaf Beach at about 1.30pm. They plan to meet up on a sandbank and stage their own mini Olympic Games.
Rod Hoare from PYSC said: “The boats will be decorated to add to the spirit of the occasion and we hope that people will come and wave us off.”
