A locum clerk has been appointed to oversee Portishead Town Council’s administration.

Former clerk Andrea Durn resigned in August after less than 12 months in the job.

The council has announced Jo Swift will fill the void temporarily, saying a permanent applicant withdrew due to ill health.

She is one of three new appointments.

A council spokesman said: "Nicky Mills has taken up the post of part-time community engagement officer. She will work with and help co-ordinate all the community groups and projects Portishead is rightly proud of.

"Sarah Jackson has joined the team on a short-term contract as development manager. Sarah will work on plans for inward investment for the council, including grants available to fund projects and activities."

Cllr Bob Bull, chairman of the staffing and finance committee, said: "We hope residents will recognise these engagements as concrete foundations for our aim to see Portishead become the best town in North Somerset."
