A home for people with learning difficulties will be set up in Clevedon.

Planning permission was agreed in principle by North Somerset Council for a facility to open in Jesmond Road.

It will house up to 10 people once open.

A petition signed by more than 25 people against the scheme was also presented to members of the planning committee.

Applicants Hentop 318B Ltd agreed to meet a number of conditions so as to secure planning permission, including ensuring an acceptable care plan is submitted before it opens and to not allow the site to be used for any other purpose than supporting people with learning difficulties.

A GL Hearn spokesman, representing Hentop, said the site would be staffed 24/7 at the council meeting on November 14.

Initially concerns over the safety of the building and trouble parking in the area were highlighted by councillors, but they were dispelled sufficiently to see the application approved.
