MORE unusual forms of transport have been used by WI groups to carry a replica Olympic torch through areas of North Somerset.
Town and village clubs have taken part in the relay, organised by the Avon Federation of Women’s Institutes, which will have seen 110 WIs carrying the torch by the time it completed its journey yesterday (Wed).
West Town and Backwell members travelled to Barrow Gurney in style, via a vintage bus on loan from Nailsea firm North Somerset Coaches.
The torch arrived in Backwell thanks to adventurous Redhill WI president Hilary Vowles who rode pillion on a motorbike through the village streets.
And Barrow Gurney members wanting to reflect rural life came up with the idea of transporting the torch to Long Ashton by tractor.
