POLICE officers are still searching for police dog Meg, who is still missing 48 hours after escaping from the home of her handler.

Although there has been a sighting, Meg has been missing from her Clevedon home since Friday morning and her handler believes she will be ‘very hungry and very frightened’.

Meg is undergoing assessment for use as a general purpose police dog and being looked after by police dog trainer and instructor Lee Webb who keeps her at his home.

Meg escaped sometime on Friday morning from the Kenn Moor Drive area.

A police spokesman said: “There has been one reported sighting in Tickenham on the same morning she went missing at about 5am.

“It is possible that Meg may be in fields in the Tickenham or surrounding area and we are urging landowners and farmers to keep a lookout for Meg.”

Meg’s handler Lee said: “I have been out looking for Meg and posting flyers to try to find her. There has been a lot of interest on social media and people are being very supportive and we have bumped into dog walkers and people who have been driving around looking for her. By now she could be very hungry and very frightened.

“It is also possible that because we have only had one positive sighting that Meg may have been taken in by someone who is feeding her and looking after her.

“We’d also like people to check garden sheds and other outbuildings, especially those that face open fields, just to make sure that Meg is not sheltering,”

Meg is seven months old and is a Belgian malinois – a short-haired, lean version of a Belgian shepherd. She is the same size as a greyhound.

She has a black muzzle, black ears and has a short-haired coat which is foxy brown in colour. She is also wearing a distinctive red collar.

If you spot Meg call the police on 101, quoting log 0656 and the name Meg.
