A Clevedon church has raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity.

Christchurch, in Chapel Hill, hosted a cream tea event in support of Cancer Research UK.

Parents and children each made a £1 donation in exchange for delicious scones, cream and strawberries.

The event also included a craft session, which involved creating CD spinners decorated with strawberries.

A total of almost £300 was raised for the charity.

Kate Dommett, the church’s family co-ordinator, said: “Everyone enjoyed tucking in to the scones and strawberries, and raised money at the same time.”

The cream tea event was part of the Christchurch Toddlers group, which returns at 10am on September 7.

The church also runs a variety of other events for young people during its Sunday services for children aged up to 16.
