Consultation over how Yatton should evolve over the next eight years began on Monday.

The committee behind the draft neighbourhood plan wishes to preserve Yatton’s independence, with emphasis on maintaining a strategic gap to Kingston Seymour.

The plan, which requires a village referendum before it can be adopted, also calls for green space to be protected off Moor Road. Persimmon Homes is rumoured to be interested in developing it.

The document suggests the former Titan Ladders site off Mendip Road would be suitable for housing. A planning application for 30 homes and nine flats is awaiting a decision from North Somerset Council.

The plan can be viewed online or in Yatton Library.

The council’s six-week consultation on the plan ends at noon on February 19. Views can submitted via the council’s consultation website, emailed to or posted to the planning policy team at Weston Town Hall.
