REDUNDANT land at the end of Portishead High Street could be preserved as an open space.

Councillor Arthur Terry will ask Portishead Town Council to consider purchasing the pocket of disused agricultural land to protect it from development.

Residents say they are fed up with the continuing development of the town and have called for the preservation of open spaces and old buildings in an attempt to protect its charm and character.

Planning permission to build on the land, which is situated between High Street and Bristol Road, has been turned down in the past. The matter is expected to appear on the agenda of the next full Town Council meeting on Wednesday.
