A WILDFLOWER meadow could be created on an area of land in Pill.

The piece of grassland near to Avon Road is managed by Easton-in-Gordano Parish Council, which has regularly cut the grass and maintained the plant life.

However, members have now decided to take a new approach to how the site is treated after discovering a number of wildflower species including oxide daisies, knapweed and yarrow.

Different species of butterfly are also known to use the area.

Parish councillor Bob Langton said: “We have been managing the site and cutting it every so often.

“When we went and looked at it with two local experts we found it was quite wildflower rich.

“So, we thought it would be something we could build on.

“We now aim to cut the area at the right time each year.

“To make the area more suitable for wildflowers, any grass that is cut will also be taken away so the ground does not become too rich.”

Once a more formal management plan has been compiled for the land, Bob is hoping to create a group of volunteers to help look after it.
