Hitting the high notes

A TALENTED pianist from Nailsea scored the highest mark ever at Nailsea Festival of Music with a performance on the piano.

Lucy Barratt, aged nine, wowed judges with a rendition of Neapolitan Song by Tchaikovsky picking up 93 marks - the highest score for a single piece since the festival began five years ago.

Lucy, who attends Grove Junior School, has been playing the piano since she was five years old. She also plays the flute and enjoys swimming with Clevedon Swimming Club.

Lucy, who’s mum Carol is a piano teacher, takes lessons with Kate Miller from Bristol. Mrs Barratt, of Sunnymede Road, said: “We were delighted with the result. Lucy is very confident, enjoys playing and has a varied repertoire. It’s great she scored such a high mark.”

Beverley Kelly from Nailsea Music Festival said: “Her magnificent 93 marks for her playing of Neapolitan Song by Tchaikovsky was a record and indicated an exceptional performance, both technically and artistically.”
