Heroes wanted for bench

THREE notorious Nailsea people will be immortalised in life-size sheet steel as part of a portrait bench planned for Millennium Park.
The town council wants to hear residents’ views on which townsfolk, past or present, should appear on the 2D work of art, funded by Sustrans, the national organisation which promotes cycling.
Portrait benches are placed on newly-created Connect2 walking and cycling paths. The Nailsea creation will be placed on the national cycle route 33, known as the Festival Way, which ends in Millennium Park.
Town council planning committee chairman Councillor James Tonkin said: “We want to know who residents think should be commemorated.
“They could be real people who were born in or connected to Nailsea, or representative of important aspects of the town, like coal-mining or glass-making. Ideally, we would like to identify characters that have significance to people of all ages.”
To nominate someone for the bench call the town council office on 01275 855277 or email email@example.com
