A giant bumblebee handed free cotton bags to shoppers in Nailsea to remind them of the new charge for plastic carriers.

Crown Glass Shopping Centre’s mascot gave out the green bags to encourage shoppers to use them rather than paying 5p for plastic bags, following changes to the law.

Centre manager Charlotte Jarrett said: “With the vast number of plastic bags in circulation, reusing them or using cotton bags, makes a lot of sense.”
