THE Rotary Club of Portishead celebrated the founding of the Rotary organisation on February 23 by donating £1,000 to the Polio Eradication fund.
Rotary International has helped reduce the number of worldwide cases of polio from 350,000 in 1988 to just 223 in 2012.
A spokesman for the Portishead club said: “It is still endemic in three countries and we need to step up an immunisation programme in these countries to ensure the disease does not come back to haunt us.”
Donations for the cause can be made to the Rotary Club of Portishead or made www.endpolio.org
