The team behind one of Portishead's most popular attractions has been honoured with a community ward.

The Portishead Pool Community Trust received Gordano Civic Society’s Civic Award for 2018.

The volunteer-led lido, in Esplanade Road, enjoyed an immensely successful year, with thousands of swimmers enjoying a dip in all weathers.

The prize was presented at the civic society’s meeting at Somerset Hall on January 28.

A spokesman said: “Since the pool reopened in 2009, it has gone from strength to strength.

“Many volunteers keep this venue running – and along with the Café Lido income and fundraising events – it is hoped this facility continues to flourish, all thanks to the trust and its dedicated followers.

“The trust is commended for its determination to keep this facility available for residents and visitors.”
