Hundreds of pounds were raised for charity as dozens of brainy people showed off their knowledge at a quiz in Portishead.

Gordano Breakfast Rotary Club hosted its annual quiz night last month, hoping to raise valuable funds for a pair of worthy causes.

The ‘fantastic’ event was held at Clarence House, in High Street, and 17 teams took part in the challenge.

The Kilkenny Cats emerged victorious, winning a prize donated by Majestic Wines.

The quiz raised £250, which will be shared between the Bristol-based Jessie May Trust and the Ebenezer Clinic in Swaziland.

President Jim Packer said “We are always looking for new members who would like to give something back to the local community.”

Compère Mike Rowland added it was a ‘fantastic night’ with charities set to benefit.
