The quality of water off Clevedon Beach remains good, according to the Environment Agency.

Following analysis of samples taken between 2015 and 2018, the agency announced that the beach’s water quality has remained consistent despite ‘short-term pollution’.

However, the quality of water off Weston Main Beach was found to have dropped, receiving a poor rating from the agency.

Cllr Peter Bryant, the council’s executive member for the environment, was pleased with the results.

He said: “We are delighted that we have retained good ratings across the North Somerset area.

“We’re concerned that Weston has seen some deterioration.

“We’re determined to do our bit to improve water quality and we call on our residents, businesses and visitors to do the same to help us keep our bathing waters clean for everyone to enjoy.”
