Girl names Lions’ mascot
A five-year-old school girl has given the Portishead Lions Club mascot a name.
Throughout October, the Lions ran a competition to name the life-size mascot in all of the Portishead primary schools.
Roary was the most popular name pupils from across the town came up with and Libby, a pupil at Portishead Primary School, was the name pulled out in the final draw.
Libby was presented with a cheque for 25 and was also asked to name a charity to which the Lions donated a further 25. Libby chose Children’s Hospice South West.
The cheques were presented at a ceremony at Clarence House earlier this month. Roary will be appearing on stage at the switching on of Portishead Christmas lights on November 29.
