A CELEBRATORY cake was cut during a thanksgiving service to mark the 25th anniversary of a Clevedon charity.

Clevedon Care has helped thousands of people to reach medical appointments as far afield as Weston, Bristol and Taunton since becoming a registered charity in 1987.

On Sunday, a service was held at the town’s Baptist church to give thanks for its volunteers’ work so far and to celebrate reaching the milestone.

The service was led by former Bishop of Bristol, Barry Rogerson, who is one of the 50 or so drivers who give their time to the charity along with about 40 other volunteers who man the phones to organise each required journey.

As Clevedon Care celebrated its anniversary, it was gifted a cheque for 1,000 from Clevedon Round Table, which has decided to support its work this year.

The group organises fundraising events in the town throughout the year including its annual firework fantasia which will take place at Dial Hill cricket ground on Saturday from 6pm.
