Rare military vehicles, a flypast from a historic plane, World War Two re-enactments and entertainment from the 1940s were all served up as part of the popular Dig for Victory Show on Saturday and Sunday.

The 1940s festival, which celebrates all things vintage, was put on at the North Somerset Showground in Wraxall.

Aimed at bringing history alive, it featured more than 200 restored vehicles from the war era as well as actors demonstrating what life was like at the time.

Veterans shared their stories, traditional crafts were demonstrated and a host of vintage clothing was displayed during fashion shows.

A children’s trail entertained younger visitors, as did the farmyard animals, and live music was provided by The Goodnight Sweethearts, the Military Wives Choir and Emily Wright and The Royals.

The vehicles included a number which are part of the Shopland Collection, which is owned by the show’s organiser, James Shopland, and his father David, from Clevedon.

Tanks were put into action on both days and on Sunday, the crowds were also treated to a flypast by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Dakota aircraft.

Proceeds from this year’s event, which also featured a North Somerset Times stand complete with vintage newspapers, will be donated to North Somerset children’s charity Springboard Opportunity Group, SSAFA which provides support to families of servicemen and women and also the Royal Voluntary Service which supports elderly people.
